The Yorkshire Regiment

A newly-formed infantry regiment of Yorkshire and the area up to the River Tees (part of the historic Yorkshire County boundary). The regiment formed on 6 June 2006 from the amalgamation of three historic Yorkshire infantry regiments and a TA regiment. The regiments which formed the Yorkshire Regiment were the Prince of Wales's Own Regiment of Yorkshire (14th/15th Foot), the Green Howards (19th Foot) and the Duke of Wellington's Regiment (33rd/76th Foot).

The TA Regiment was formed from the two Green Howard companies of the Tyne Tees Regiment and the bulk of the East and West Riding Regiment including its Battalion HQ (minus the LI Company at Wakefield).

Structure

The Regiment will comprise of four Infantry Battalions:

  • 1st Battalion, The Yorkshire Regiment (Prince of Wales's Own)
  • 2nd Battalion, The Yorkshire Regiment (Green Howards)
  • 3rd Battalion, The Yorkshire Regiment (Duke of Wellington's)

The regiment's nickname is the "Yorkshire Warriors".

The Regimental HQ is in the centre of York, with the antecedent regimental offices in York, Richmond and Halifax - now renamed Area Offices of The Yorkshire Regiment, who will maintain links with the community and the former regiment associations. The new regiment is the only single county Regiment in the British Army.
