Obsolete - adj. The natural state of all new British equipment at best about 20mins after introduction and frequently several years before it was even designed.

However, the MoD's viewpoint on this is that as it's already obsolete the process of getting a replacement can be delayed as long as they like. After all, if you've got something world-leading and cutting-edge it's only going to need replacing soon to ensure it maintains its position. If it's already laughably old-fashioned then it can soldier on and on with no change in status.
