M2

The M2 Amphibious Bridging system was built by the German company EWK as a replacement of the French built Gillois. The M2 was an improvement as it did not rely on the large inflatable and easily damaged side pontoons, but was still limited in its load capacity (MLC60) and it's lack of manouverability when used as a ferry.

There was a dedicated Amphibious Regiment equipped with the M2, consisting of 23 Amphibious Engineer Squadron RE, 64 Amphibious Squadrons and 73 Amphibious Support Squadron. The M2 was replaced by the M3 in British service in 1996.
