Unpowered aircraft (rather than an overgrown kite with a bloke strapped to it) today flown as a sport but has had military uses.

Method by which Ze Germans got their pilots trained for WW2 so getting round Article 179 of the Versailles Treaty.

Gliders were used to deliver German Combat Engineers on top of the Belgian fortress of Eben Emael in May 1940.

In 1944 used by the Allies as a delivery system to get troops into the D-Day battlefield especially notable at Pegasus Bridge near Caen.

Spams, in their annoying manner of having to be the so bleeding superior, stuck jets onto their gliders ... Think they were missing the point ... AGAIN!
