A member of the Airborne or Special Forces who no longer has a direct war fighting role, but is involved operationally in an administrative capacity. The earliest recorded use of the phrase "chairborne" can be found in the 1954 film They Who Dare, Dirk Bogarde glibly addresses a fellow SAS officer with the line "I bet you're happy I got you out of that chairborne job, to come on this raid"

Chairborne is now widely used as term for Clerks and other people in administrative roles.
