65 Works Group RE

65 Works Group Royal Engineers (Volunteers) is the only Works Group within 170 (Infrastructure Support) Engineer Group that is totally staffed from Territorial Army (TA) personnel. It is a 300 strong national RE TA Unit recruited from across the UK.

Personnel are professional engineers, technicians and artisan tradesmen, who are usually drawn from the UK's engineering industry sector, where they may work as consultants or contractors, or from local authorities or government agencies. There are also drivers, signallers, vehicle mechanics and chefs on the units establishment.

65 Wks Gp RE (V) is formed into a Headquarter unit and five Specialist Teams Royal Engineers (STRE). Three of these teams are referred to as works teams STRE (Wks), who provide an all-round general engineering design capability.

In addition, we also have the only railway infrastructure team and the only ports infrastructure team within the Army. As such, we provide niche specialist engineering skills that enhance the capability of the regular element within 170 (Infra Sp) Engr Gp, by bringing an increased depth of technical engineering knowledge from UK industry.
