Major Events

The following major events took place in 1982:

  • General Leopoldo Galitieri was strangely and abruptly removed from power in June of this year ... just days after the British Army paraded through Port Stanley in fact.
  • January 11 – Mark Thatcher, son of British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, disappears in the Sahara during the Paris-Dakar Rally. Tragically, he is rescued alive and unhurt three days later.

Military Events

The following military events took place in 1982:

  • The Falklands War was triggered by the occupation of South Georgia by Argentina on 19 March 1982 and ended with the defeat and surrender of Argentinian Forces on 14 June.

ARRSE Events

  • One of the most important years over the past few decades. On it's first day, it gave birth to the future saviour of the free world StabTiffy2B
  • Co-incidentally, it was the year Fluffy Bunny first took the Queen's Shilling, making his Army Number as old as StabTiffy2B (the nig!).
