162 Movement Control Regiment RLC (V) is the only part-time Movement Control Regiment in the British Army and recruits its officers and soldiers from throughout the UK.

Its members work alongside their regular counterparts. Training is varied and, in addition to training throughout the UK, the unit regularly trains in Germany, Poland, Kenya, Cyprus and Gibraltar.

Movement Operators are responsible for getting the right thing to the right place at the right time and in the right condition by the most economical means. Their job is to plan and move personnel and material by land, sea and air throughout the world, on operations and exercises.

We are soldiers first but recognise the need to develop our soldier's skills. There are opportunities to gain qualifications such as your car and HGV/MHE licence as well as try adventurous training activities such as offshore sailing, skiing, canoeing, climbing or diving.

Whilst in the TA you will be given structured personal development training. At times it can be physically and mentally demanding. Fitness, stamina and team working skills are all part of the package that can ultimately have a very beneficial effect on your civilian career.

Whilst we do work hard, we also have a lot of fun and get paid whilst we do it. Ex-Regulars and new recruits are equally welcome to join. The Regiment has four National TA Squadrons based in Grantham, with a further Regional Squadron based in Swindon.

280 Movement Control Squadron RLC (V) is unique in that if is the only Regional TA Movement Control Squadron in the British Army. It recruits mainly in the Wiltshire and Gloucestershire area and is located in the Swindon TA Centre.
