All I had to do was drive up to Gscheckpoint Gscharlie (the only place I could actually cross), flash my Irish or Brit passport with the corresponding visas in them and Robert was your auntie's brother. After a very short while, the Grenzer recognised my alfa-red Alfa Romeo Sprint as I approached and mostly just waved me through with a cursory glance at my passport. It was the same on the way back from West Berlin. Why make such a big deal of it?
