Seems the Lib Dems and Tory's want our opinion on repealing the vast amount of garbage laws introduced by Nu Liarbour. Some quite interesting ideas already on the website and I'm sure a few more will be added by fellow Arrsers

Your Freedom

So what laws would you like to see repealed?

Detention without trial
Suspension of habeus corpus
NHS CfH IT system
Ban on foxhunting

... and that's just the start.

My starter would be the "Private Security Industry Act 2001" (And thus destruction of the SIA). Followed by most of the last 13 years of gun law.

Isn't there also a recent act (last couple of years) that places restrictions on what sort of Porn one can view, and generally interfering with what two consenting adults are legally allowed to get up to in the privacy of their own homes?

Edited for serious spelink mongery

If it gets shut of that tosser Brian Haw, then I'm all for it. He abandoned his wife and children in Redditch, and ponced off to Parliament square to become a hippy. Makes me ashamed to come from Redditch.

Site's b*ggered at this time - "Service unavailable"...

However; bin the entire Firearms Act and replace it with the New Zealand model. This focuses on the user, not the firearm type.

System to be administered by a body independent of the police, allowing them to concentrate on the real problem of illegal firearms!

The UK Libel Law. Travesty.
The law of defamation has undergone a radical overhaul and whether London will continue to be known by international libel lawyers as 'a town called Sue' will be substantially modified under the Defamation Bill which is to receive its second reading on 7 July 2010.

Draft Clause 11 is a key feature which requires a corporate body to discharge the burden of proving actual or potential damage or risk its action being struck out under draft clause 12. This is an important provision which would prevent large corporations using deep pockets to stifle criticism. In this respect, you may recall several years ago, the publicity attending the lengthy and expensive McDonald's case in which the entire weight of that corporation was brought to bear upon two unrepresented defendant protesters who distributed leaflets containing disparaging remarks about the products sold by that corporation. Another contemporaneous example to which draft clause 11 might apply is the recent attempt by corporate lawyers to stifle reporting of the activities of Trafigura who denied that they had sought a super injunction (an injunction to prevent the disclosure of the existence of an injunction) to bully a national newspaper not to report proceedings in Parliament in which the issue was debated!

Draft Clause 14 abolishes the presumption in favour of juries although they may, under draft clause 15 be retained where the interests of justice so determine. Juries were abolished in civil cases several years ago but were retained in defamation cases. The presence of juries have been heavilly criticised in academic circles since they tend to arrive at damages which are considered to be extremely disproportionate and have led to several successful appeals for the reduction in the sums awarded.

Which Boris..? Mayor of London Boris? In which case FREDDIE !

That ban was slipped into the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act 2005 act. And I'm still struggling to work out why banning protesters outside Parliament without Met Police approval would affect Big Crime gangs. Unless it's to stop them slipping bribes to MP's ...?

Hopefully they will now stop his dole too.
