Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Doing a bit of family history and have this formation badge; can anyone help identify it-i've been all through some books in the library with no success.

    Many thanks

    Attached Files:

  2. Looks like Long Range Desert Group (LRDG)?
  3. Polish unit perhaps?
  4. thanks for info to date..not sure about the Polish link, it came from a pay a pay and record book of a sapper in a field assault squadron.
  5. does it say what unit?
  6. 1942 - 3 (Cheshire) Field Sqn RE
    1944 - 141 Field Assault Sqn RE
  7. Not much luck on this badge then; anyone know any British Army badge experts?
  8. Not sure if it helps but found this

So maybe an old badge from the original Scorpion Regt?

  9. steven,
that's it, the missing pieces of info-everything slots together now; thanks very much!
  10. 1st Scorpion Regt RAC was formed AFTER El Alamein from 41 RTR - 10th Battalion, The Manchester Regt (TA). (Not to be confused with 42 and 44 RTRs which used Matilda Scorpions AT El Alamein)
As above, 10th Armoured Divisions R.E assets, inc 3rd (Cheshire) Fd Sqn RE and 141 Fd Park Sqn RE re formed into 1st Assault Regt RAC/RE (75% RAC badged) in autumn 1944 in Italy. Redesignated 'A' Armoured Regt RE and subsequently 1st Armoured Engineer Regt, 25th Armoured Engineer Bde, 6th Jan 1945.
The Cheshire RE were raised from the Wallasey and Birkenhead areas if that fits in to the family tree roots.
25th AE Bde had a formation badge but no corresponding patches.

  11. If it helps, there was also a 100th Independent Scorpion Squadron RAC in 14th Army (Burma) circa 1944-45.
