Dear all,

I've been asked to track down the service details of an old (and now passed away) old soldier.

He joined what we would now call The Rifles and served in WW1. He was honourably discharged in 1917.

Can someone out there please give me the details of an organisation that might be able to track down his service history? All I have is his name and service number and the fact that he joined up from his home in Boston, MA. He was originally from Cork, Eire.

Thank you kindly.

LAIT, there are people who specialise in tracing old soldiers like this but you can do it yourself easily enough, and a lot cheaper. The National Archives website has lots of detail as do sites like Ancestry.com. If you put the details up here you'll get lots of help to start.

If you re-post your question/post on the military section of www.boards.ie there are a number of people there who would be more than happy to advise you, especially if you refer to the country as Ireland, rather than the somewhat poetic 'ÉIRE'.
