Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Went with 0A to watch our grandson play in goal today for an Under-18 league match. She has a good grasp of footballing terms and can just about explain the offside rule.

However, when we given a team sheet she said "Oh, look, Tom must be the best of the lot - he's been given the number 1 and he's the first one in the list". This without a hint of humour.

I tried veeeerrrrryyyyy slowly to explain that his position was goalie and that the list of players always showed the goalie first (as per a programme).

Having had this one for about 30 years and although its fairly intelligent it never ceases to amaze me with its stupidity.
  2. To be fair there is nothing in the laws of association football that says the keeper must be number one, only that all players are to have numbers.
