"Winfields" makers of bowties for mess dress?

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. I am wondering if anyone here has heard of a company called 'Winfields' that made black silk bowties for the British Army officers in the 1950s. I cannot find anything on them on the internet.

There are several lots of these bowties on eBay and I would purchase them if I could be assured of their quality. So, I thought I'd check here.

The eBay link is: 5 Brand New Black Officers' Bow Ties

PS. I have posted this in a thread at RumRation but have received no replies.
  2. As I am at work I cannot access Ebay at the moment. Are these the rather nice ties that produce a small bow rather than the Jason King-stylee variety that seem to proliferate at the moment?
  3. They seem to be of 'normal' size. Definitely not the width of ties from the '70s. The photo shows them to be single-ended and they are one-piece (no adjustment buckle).

What makes me worry about their quality is that the seller says he isnt sure if they are silk.
