No, a very old traditional dish from Naples, where I believe many Italians emigrated to America, was a real poverty food, Pasta, Patatas e Provelo....... basically any odds and sods of pasta was mixed with chunks of potatoes, then a little cheese stirred through it.

Still a hugely popular starter in restaurants..... you can gussy it up with herbs, stock, wine,smoky bacon etc.

Our B&B landlords in Naples told us to try it...... my wife got hooked on it....... 13 meals in 7 days
