Anyone really surprised by this? Honestly?
and this;

'Tens of millions of pounds of overseas aid was stolen and spent on plasma televisions and luxury goods by corrupt regimes'

Not news to anyone with enough brains to hold a paper the right way up...

I detect an underlying anti US sentiment, not everything the Yanks do is due to politically correct imperialism.

This latest debuckle has me stumped though.

DC
Many Americans do seem to feel Obama is anti American.

Being a sceptic septic there is little The Chosen One does that would surprise me. I think sharing such data with the Russians is dreadful.

HOWEVER: I am sorely tempted to go back through the archived posts of the posters on this thread and see who referred to President Bush as "a moron" "a cretin", "the shaved chimp"........ Many of the same exulted with the choice of The Beloved Leader as out President. Remember the old saying "Be careful what you wish for as you might get it"

Foreign Policy?? Did you say Foreign Policy?? Do you actually think he has one?

Also he is likely to cause global unemployment. Almost all of the nations in the world (Zimbabwe and Somalia excepted) employ a substantial number of individuals in their foreign ministries and intelligence service who do nothing but analyse US foreign policy. Now that we have no rational foreign policy these individuals are likely to be declared redundant and replaced by an old lady with a Ouiji board although Romania may chose a lady reading tea leaves instead.

On a more serious note, I really feel that the policies of our beloved Chosen One are determined by his political advisers looking at domestic polls and taking positions that will ensure that he keeps the pro-Israel people on his side without offending any trade unions.

Safe to say then that Israeli nuclear secrets won't be bartered for peanuts to a country described by US Diplomats as a "gangster State"?

Our deterrent is not independent, never has been. As it says on the sides of the missiles 'Property of the United States Navy'. We don't own them, we borrow them.
? They say "Royal Navy" on the side. Just like the Polaris ones did.

Independent - depends what you mean. Can the US Govt cripple our deterrent in the medium term by refusing US companies permission to supply us with spares? Yes. I suspect there are a bunch of other pieces of military kit this applies to, as well.

Can the US Govt stop us firing our missiles or, conversely, make us fire them without the PM saying "go"? No.

**** me, we've no right to complain about how sneaky the Spams have been given the way we spent the best part of the 19th century raping the planet and conning darkies. We were the original snake oil salesmen. We've had our day, it was fun..for some..but now we're **** all but an irrelevance led by self serving, toadying ******* for politicians. So, the Spams have done the dirty again? Get ****ing used to it. They may be slightly embarrassed that we now know, but they also know that we'll do **** all about it...because we can't. We need them more than they'll ever need us.

Not that it's my point of expertise but how does knowing the number of missile bodies we have help Russia work out how many warheads we've got. Surely you can vary the number of MIRVs on top of each missile etc etc. Seems a bit of a non-story to me
Pretty much this layman's thoughts. The Russians know how many SSBNs we have, expect they could hazard a decent guess at how many missiles we are able to deploy.

Why do the Russians want this info so badly? Would have thought any under or over estimates of the size of the UK deterrent a bit
of an irrelevance, given the size of US/Russian/Chinese nuclear forces.

Has anyone not considered that the septics were lining up a misinformation scam ? tell the russkies what they want to hear about britain, then say "damn, them limeys lied to us" when rumbled as porkies ??

Americans will ALWAYS regard themselves and their own interests as a first priority.
I agree, but does this make them different from anybody else?

It is not so much knowing how many missiles UK has rather it is more to do with the knowledge that USA is willing to stab any friends in the back. Now that is good intel to have from a Russian POV.

Anyway, with the number of 'sympathisers' in the UK I would be surprised if Russia did not know how many missiles we had already.

..... and all a great irrelevance when the first dirty bomb goes off. I suspect headshed knew about this before wikileaks, that's why we [and everyone else] employs intelligence agencies. Joe public did not need to know. The usual Septic bashers come out of the woodwork with no regard to the subject matter. I'd put them in a minority of less than a percentage point. Every nation looks to and should put itself and its people first. We tend to do that to a lesser degree because a succession of left wing socialist liberal idealist hidden agenda multiculteralists thought they knew better.
