more of the benefits of socialism - 'North Korean dictator Kim Kong-un has ordered citizens to hand over their pet dogs — so they can be killed for food.

The hermit state says pet dogs are now considered a “decadent” luxury and “a ‘tainted’ trend by bourgeois ideology,” and must be surrendered, according to a report by South Korea’s Chosun Ilbo media outlet.'

Wasn't it some time ago the media said Rocket Man was dead and his sister had taken over?

Lord preserve us from idiots who believe this garbage!

Addendum: How many people in NK do you think have the luxury of feeding a pet dog?

Calling @DaManBugs for a *sensible* comment on the success of Socialism in North Korea.

Or more likely how it's not "the right sort of Socialism".

Being serious, NK has barely been able to feed itself for several decades, more than partly due to KJU's insistence on having lots of tanks rather than lots of tractors, and making nuclear missiles instead of electrical generation plants, sewage treatment works etc.

The self imposed isolation has nothing to do with the shortage either.

"The USDA assessment defines a daily intake of 2,100 calories as necessary to maintain an active and healthy lifestyle and said that North Korea is running a per capita deficit of 430 calories."

They could reduce required calories by doing less but if everyone is equal why are nearly 60% missing out on their full recommended calorie intake while 40% are presumably getting enough (or in the case of tubby, too much)?

This article doesn't delve beyond calories and in to vitamin's, nutrition, food quality or dietary related disorders.

USDA: 60% of North Koreans are food insecure

Extra dog in the diet will help. Soviets only had turnips.

It would only take one bad harvest to push NK into mass starvation.

Still, if KJU redeployed some of his vast army into planting and harvesting crops, the situation might improve.

NK army = 1,28M ACTIVE personnel and another 600k reserves. It also takes up 5% of the nation's GDP (or more depending on who you believe).

If you live in North Korea, you had better keep an eye on your youngest child....

Sooner or later, they’re gonna run out of dogs!

At least with a dog they can have a leg each at Christmas.

you say that - my grandfather was on Jersey during the occupation, and of course as the war went on there was less and less food coming onto the island and then nothing at all for the last eighteen months or so.

apparently at one point during this period they did get a dog - my father recounted to me grandad fixing him with a baleful glare at one point in the years afterwards and telling him 'you can do what you want with dog meat - fry it, grill it, roast it, curry it - it just tastes like dog.'

don't forget how the border guards are lovely people really and just misunderstood. bit like the secret police.

...why do they all need border guards and secret police again?? it seems a bit of a theme with socialist countries...
