Who would make a good SoS for Defence?

#41
Surely, it's not really that an important role - why not tack it on the end of Lord Randy Mandy of Rio's list of responsibilities? He'll cope..... failing that, give to good old Prezzer 'Rocky' Prescott - he's always up for a scrap. Even fcuking Bart Simpson could make a better fist of it than the present encumbant.

Patrick Mercer MP

He could not do worse than a former Secretary of State for Defence - Ex Major Dennis Healey MP!

Thank you for that kind vote of confidence, Msr, but I have my eyes on higher things once I retire; the Prime Minister's post should be vacant in the New Year and I have a fistful of policies that I think the electorate might like!

Clearly, we'd have to go for that very epitome of competence and knowledge -Geoff (Buff) Hoon.

I may or may not have been drinking ;)

Lord Paddy of Pantsdown.
Paddy Ashdown has not one jot of loyalty towards this country and is another git determined to see us under the EU yoke. He may have served but his loyalty is (now) not to his Queen and country

I'm cross he has already been suggested, but:

HRH The Duke of Edinburgh.

PS: I think PTP may be in love with the socialist Hutton - only a rumour though.

PPS: Whilst I'm thinking about this, HM The Queen for Prime Minister!

I'm working on the details, KotB, and I don't want the major parties to steal the best bits....

But I'm planning a large scale monthly event at Tower Hill for those who do not agree with me! :D

I wouldn't have Sir Jock Strap near the post. From him, a pat on the back would be a knife recce.
Wouldn't have him as a Trolley Dolly on the Queen's flight , let alone as SoS!!
Either of you actually met him? Or are you just talking out of your collective Arrses?

No, they don't need thrashing; they know that I am just itching to test the mettle of my axeman, I mean, enforcer, er, Home Secretary! :D

James Blunt - WTF would he do except smoke a 9' reefer?
What does that matter? Bill Clinton seemed to do okay as the most important man on the planet and he had puffed on one. It doesn't make someone a drug addict. Prince Harry has had his share and he's now one of us with no recurrent drugsphobia.

Why don't they pick up one of the recent 1* retirees like Ed Butler. There's nothing wrong with Mercer et al, but operating at CO/SO1 level is a bit different to someone who has commanded at Brigade level and in various cross-agency roles.

Likewise, just cos someone was a Tp Comd in the HCR it doesn't follow that they will have a clue about defence in the big picture. Look at that idiot Hitler - he hadn't even passed Junior CLM - no wonder his plan failed in the end!

The holder of the post of Special Advisor on Defence to HM Government (Emperor Mong himself) couldn't have come up with a better suggestion than Jack Straw.
How about Andy McNab as Defence secretary? We could have all the cabinet talking in that strange way to each other and basking in the glory of having rubbed shoulders with "them". Every time he gave a speech on the BBC they could blank his face out and make his voice go all wobbly. "Armoured vehicles?" he'd say, "make the buggers tab it from town to town. I'm sure there's tons of pipelines to hide in."
