  1. Looking for a bit of help please,
my laptop has decided to go tits, after boot up it gets right up to the last stage and then the screen just go,s white,..any ideas?
    thankyou in advance.

  2. Hit F8 during boot up and open it in 'Safe Mode'

If that works, and gives you access, you need to get reset it to a previous date when it worked.

That sounds crap. Someone sensible will be along shortly.

no its about right - go into safe mode and try a restore or uninstall the graphics driver and then put it back.

possible a windows update overwrote something which didn't like it and you only found out when it rebooted.

if it was an 'important' update then they tend to create restore points. certain microsoft video drivers are known to cause problems and its often easier with older machines to carry on running xp drivers

  6. My desktop put load of windows update on last night. Took a good ten minutes to boot this am and I was about to pull the plug but it was working it through.
Last stage I had a black screen for a good few minutes with just the mouse pointer.

Might be worthwhile letting it run on for 30 minutes and see what happens. Id still the same try safe mode and system restore.

Then search google with details of your issue and pc type model number. If it is an update problem info will be out there and people will have posted experience and resolution.

  9. Just had the same problem.I checked with the manufacturers (Samsung) web site and found that the likeliest problem is a knackered battery, with my laptop if the battery will not charge then the machine will not work even when plugged into the mains.

really? I've never come across a machine you couldn't leave the battery out of. when I turn older laptops into desktops for people I often end up patching knackered power leads into knackered batteries to power through the battery port. handy for when the power socket has been repaired too often or like one of mine where it wouldn't charge anything.

  12. I get a white screen at times and that can be cured by moving the the screen slightly. Must have a loose connection somewhere in it but I am too much of a computer biff to do anything about it.

Damn the auto spelling thingy on this.

Worst case scenario is that it could be a rootkit virus. Easiest thing in that situation is a complete reinstall from rescue disk. You did create a backup of important files/porn, etc....didn't you?:crash:

  14. You might like to try this, at least it will give you a clue as to where the fault might be.

Connect an external monitor to the laptop, if it works correctly then the problem has been isolated to the screen element of the laptop - probably the ribbon cable has come loose. If the external monitor does not work correctly then it is probably the motherboard or the graphics chip in trouble.

Not saying I am right but it is worth a try.
