Not to worry, 'call me dave' has given the electorate a cast iron guarantee that he will hold a referendum.

ON Monday The Sun's image of Gordon Brown sticking two fingers up to the British public was provocative. But it was right

What a difference to Churchill. When he made that salute, it inspired this country to wipe the scourge of fascism from Europe.

But for Gordon Brown, it's a gesture to the British people saying: "I know best. Your views are irrelevant. Get used to it."

Make no mistake, that's the reason he refuses to give the British people a referendum on the EU constitutional treaty - he simply doesn't trust them. It's the arrogant belief that he - and only he - has the right to decide what's best for Britain's future.

Well, Prime Minister, I've news for you. The old politics that you grew up in no longer reflect the new world we live in. It's a world where people are demanding - and getting - more power and more control over their lives

Not to get into any arguments here, since anything on ARRSE relating to the EU quickly devolves into the Special Olympics category, but doesn't France's position at the top make good sense? They're the largest country with the second-largest population.

You think the UK is getting a raw deal? Look at how little Germany receives in relation to the size of its population. Romania is getting the serious shaft in that regard - and such a developing country* should logically receive a lot more in order to bring its economy up to par so that they can put out more and receive less (might have changed in the past two years). Meanwhile, Luxemburg is raking it in, despite a per-capita GDP that's twice as high as any other nation's.

So, what can we draw from these statistics? Bugger all! There are clearly more need/graft/etc. factors at play here than these few statistics given by the Telegraph. So, what are the precise reasons for outrage over these stats?

*yes yes, why a developing country should be in the EU is also beyond me.

This redistribution of wealth beloved of the Socialists.
France profits so much because the have managed to 'Twist' the Income/Outgoings to suit themselves.
So much of what they pay out comes back as farm subsidies for their Inefficient Farms, plus a large amount of what we pay in.
When Blair/Brown agreed to give up so much of the rebate gained under the previous administration France was supposed to sort out her Farming practice.
Britain gave up France did nothing to sort out their industry.
