Where do we go from here?

I think he's about the only one facing reality at policy level. We simply couldn't exert the kind of military presence we did 50 years ago if another general war kicked off, so it doesn't make any kind of sense to spend vast amounts of money on a force measure that would never be capable of doing what it's intended to do.

That given, it's far more sensible to spend what money you do have meeting the committments you actually do have.
