When benefits and food banks just ain’t enough

Iam just going to mention from my own personal observations, the DWP seem rather selective in who they put through the ringer for the disability benefit awards.... People who clearly are swinging the lead seem to be left alone and in my view it's because the DWP/local authorities don't want the fallout that could result.I just read the other day that the DWP an the NHS increasingly liase when it comes to cases. I will just briefly mention one example, one youngish chap who supposedly has a personality disorder, spends his days in the local gym and the pub nearby pumping up and getting pissed up , and regular gets sectioned because of the large amounts of steroids and other drugs he takes messes his head up even more,I suspect, half the police station turn out to deal with his outbursts. . He is allowed to continue his lifestyle. In my view if he is that mental he should be in a secure asylum if he isn't he should be told ,stop the steroids/drugs and starting looking for a job/voluntary work or you will get **** all money .And that goes for the smack addicts and other clowns as well. It reminds me of the prisons, drugs are rife /no discipline because the powers that be would rather keep a lid on things. In my view society needs to stop indulging these types and hit them hard .if you want to take steroids fine, ,it's not the crime of the century but I don't see why taxpayers need to pay for that. Get a job and by them.

Whereas others who are law abiding, genuine cases who keep to themselves and don't cause the local community problems get pushed from pillar to post and get into a real mess. I have no problem with assessing people but Iam also wary of this ATOS business,in my view it should come down to what someones nhs specialist says they can and can't do. And if they aren't under the care of a hospital consultant... why not?

Is Remploy still a thing? I used to visit; it was great.
Years ago my disabled brother [RTA] worked at Remploy making leg calipers, then the Gov
closed it, it's just a agency for taking tax pays money now, supposed to find work
for the disabled but in true jobs for the boys club, about the same as job centres
[or whatever they are calling them this month]

Oh yea I forgot you have to pay your own fuel and parking charges, so what is not funded?
Guess what ..... I have had a motability car also my only expence was fuel, parking
Seems we have differing ideas of what funding is paying out your mobility component for a car is an optional payment the money isn't paid only for a mobility car if it was paid for with money other then the benefit you receive then that would be funded, otherwise you may as well say your weekly groceries are totally funded

I've yet to come across anyone in the DWP / jobcentre or even ATOS (Capita or whoever it is these days) who has even heard of my condition but they still seem to be able to assess me on a regular basis without even contacting my specialist or even my GP, I'd have no issue with being assessed every 6 months if there was a glimmer of hope they might actually get things right once in a blue moon

you need a social worker and a few sections under your belt, and get on the roids.

Doctors & nurses want a quiet life and aren't prepared for Chavvy McChav to threaten them when the medical staff think they are blagging.
Indeed.

Once upon a time we had cops to throw the those theats out of hospitals (I did so myself -i was stopped being sent to hospital calls after a while, as I had no sense of humour for disorder in hospitals).

Happily we have neither the staff nor the back-up to care for or control the public. So those unenlightened days are over.

I don't blame doctors or nurses that is not why the joined. But they should have the back-up to throw people out.

You forgot the miricals the DWP/Attos/Capita whoever can preform by curing lifelong disabilities or illness. Well they think they can when they refuse a claim or continue with a proven medical condition an ongoing award.

God bless them for all they do to screw up deserving cases

As part of my current role I sometimes see PIP appeals files. There are cases where you feel genuinely aghast that someone's benefits were stopped - some of those cases beggar belief and people are experiencing extreme hardship (having to sell nearly everything they posses, even down to their wedding rings, to survive).
Other appellants can present with no verified medical condition but report that they are unable to walk far, do physical work, etc. In other cases, appellants cite mental health issues - anxiety is a common one - and say they cannot leave the house. Well, paying someone benefits because they won't leave their home is as wrong as witholding them from someone who is ill.

You only pay the the motability conponent for a vehicle. You can pay an advance payment or go for a car without an advance payment. Also some cars only take part of the motability conponent and you keep the diffrence. If you get the care conponent that is yours to pay 'For care' I think you do not understand what DLA/PIP is actually for?

Some never leave the safety of their home again. Mental illness is just as disabling as a physical symptom for some poor souls. Mental health illness can hit anyone without warning and I mean anyone

I've been saying that for years.
That and if a disabled person can do a small part of a job for a percentage of the wage, and a firm can accommodate it, they should. Not to get cheap labour but to make people feel worthwhile.

Totally agree, many years ago I was made redundant and while searching for a new job I had sometime to spare and volunteered to drive minibus for a local Spastic society home/shelter, taking those that were able to perform simple tasks to & from a nearby Remploy factory. They were so grateful for the chance to prove they could do something useful with their lives, it was quite humbling.

Apart from us people who aren't weak.

Correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, and sentence composition is always worth worrying about.
You make a good point, but due to my hands having good days and bad days I've got used to my posts containing all kinds of errors whereby my fingers have just 'done their own thing' regardless of what I wanted to type. :)

600 thousand motors? So that's one in ten of the UK population requiring these vehicles. WTF?
In some parts of Northern Ireland, it’s more than that.
I remember driving into a well known area of west Belfast, immortalised by the water boys.(I saw Lagan valley, you saw Lenadoon)
And they were all out at the front doors wondering who was driving that elderly piece of shite down their street

The Nissan Quashuai? Thing was known locally as the UDR staff car.
The more depressed the neighbourhood, the better the vehicle parked on the pavement.
