Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Mail Online - M E Synon's blog

Some smartarse in the comments thread reckons it's a sFH18, but there's no top recuperator (?). Any clues to pass an idle moment?

  2. It certainly looks like an sFH18 trail, but the gun, as you say, is all wrong. Perhaps a French 155?

  3. Here's a photo of a French 155 emplaced by the Germans at the Riva-Bella strongpoint in Ouistreham. It looks similar-ish, although probably rather larger than the one shown in the blog.

The trouble with the Germans is that they recycled every gun they got their hands on and frequently mounted them on different carriages, making identifcation a bit of a 'mare.

  4. Actually, looking at it again, I think we might be looking at a captured British BL 4.5-inch Medium on a German carriange.

  5. It's a 15cm schwere feldhaubitze 37(t) captured Czech piece original designation 15cm hruba houfnice vz. 37 (k4)
