Really ? Plenty of eight year old cars need a new engine, at a cost greater than their value ?Plenty of 8 year old high mileage ICE cars need new engines. Cost wouldn’t be much different on that Merc.
Well, I'll go to sea in a bucket.

A new Engine@ 15,000 quid. Sod me must be made of gold.Plenty of 8 year old high mileage ICE cars need new engines. Cost wouldn’t be much different on that Merc.
Reconditioned engine for a Mercedes C class runs around £3000 (anyone remember the Ford recond engines, silver class or gold class?). Clearly car mechanics in Oz get much better remuneration than those in the UK. My local Merc specialist (not the dealer) is charging out around £85 an hour. I estimate 2 days, one for engine out, one to put it back, call it 10 hours a day, 20 hours work = £1700 + engine £3000 + oil and bits 'n pieces £1000. Total £5700.Really ? Mercedes owner 'horrified' to discover new battery will cost more than car is worth
A DRIVER was stunned to discover the cost to replace his Mercedes Benz's battery is £15,000 - more than the value of the vehicle itself.www.express.co.uk

What's the warranty these days, 6 years?Any reasonable person wouldn't expect a car that costs £27,000 would have a battery that would die after eight years.
Only if that reasonable person had done **** all research prior to buying a car.

The head of Stellantis disagrees with EU policy: how he sees the future without emissions.
The EU plans to phase out petrol and diesel cars for electric vehicles, but Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares sees cheaper and faster ways to reduce carbon emissions.
The European Commission’s strategy to phase out combustion engines in favor of electric vehicles is a choice that involves environmental and social risks, Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares said in an interview.
Since the merger of Fiat Chrysler and Peugeot PSA Group, Tavares has developed a € 30 billion electrification plan, which has helped Stellantis’ shares grow by more than 60% in their first year . . .

They aren't if you can only afford a second hand one.Another fuckwit incapable of avoiding the ad hominem smear.
Read the article. The article says the owner was quoted a Mercedes main dealer rate of £200 an hour.
And that’s before you consider the article; it’s a whinge fest from a local rag that has been syndicated by that well known organ of investigative journalism, the Daily Express. There’s no mention of the car’s mileage……It’s click bate.
A sad faced gentleman who has found out that the high mileage 4 year old premium car he bought is shagged out four years later is not evidence that electric cars aren’t viable….

No it doesn’t mean anything of the sort. There’s no mention of its current mileage; it could have been around around Leicester doing 100000 a year as a minicab. If the ICE was fucked, he’d probably be looking at a bill between 5-10k, which would not be worth spending. There’s no mention of the car’s mileage
At the time of purchase, the car had done 49,000 miles
So, not so high mileage, £27,000 for 4 years driving, Real bargain
It means if you buy a second hand EV/Hybrid, be prepared to scrap it if the battery fails,
it doesn't bode well for the second hand market in cars with a battery drive,
until second hand batteries are available

Nobody as said that that electric cars aren’t viable….

There’s no investigative journalism in the article to corroborate one man’s facts and it ignores that there are plenty of articles on proper motoring sites about Mercedes of that age needing large sums spending on them.
I’m not making anything up; I’m simply using a possibly scenario to expose the complete lack of any journalistic integrity. The Daily Express FFS, sindicating from a Leicester Mercury quoting a single source with an aganeda. It’s ******* laughable that you believe it. Neither you nor I know how this car has been used.it could have been around around Leicester doing 100000 a year as a minicab
You are making up shit, again, you have no facts to support that statement.
There’s no investigative journalism in the article to corroborate one man’s facts
You are accusing the man of being a liar?

Irrelevant, we are not discussing other vehicles, stick to the subject
If the ICE was fucked, he’d probably be looking at a bill between 5-10k, which would not be worth spending.
Bullshit, There would be second hand parts available, and a possible rebuild of the old engine,
By the way, how is your Hybrid going?
I used to run a fleet of Mercedes Sprinter vans. They lead a tough life and do about 60,000 to 70,000 per year. At the five year mark they are knackered and have often racked up $40k or more in repairs. Shocking things that most repairs seem to run into thousands, occasionally tens of thousands. I’m swapping them out for Ford Transits, much cheaper in every way and seem to last longer.Really ? Plenty of eight year old cars need a new engine, at a cost greater than their value ?
