What will be different following the Coronavirus?

One thing I hope to disappear post covid 19, but dont hold out any hope it will, is Premier League footballers being paid hundreds of thousands of pounds a week.

Sure they entertain and nothing wrong with getting a £5-10 grand a week for that but Europe, possibly the World, has just discovered we dont need professional football, it's a nice luxury not a necessity.

The same applies to pundits and other celebrity entertainers as well in my view.
trust me, Lineker is still getting his fat cheques from the BBC

And he deserves every penny. Where would we be as a nation in these testing times without live broadcasts of his views on the top ten central attacking midfielders of the 83/84 season?

Perhaps would could see a sustained increase in home cooking, and self sufficiency? Why not try cooking things instead of going to KFC or McDonalds for every meal?

An increase in hand washing would be a good legacy too.
I very much doubt it because people are really too set in their ways and would soon revert. On the other hand, if this went on for a couple of years then you might see a change.

Hopefully in the future, people will start to understand that if you can't afford it , you can't have it.
I'm hoping that most of the credit companies will go bust in the next few months.
Again, I doubt it. For most of them it will be a case of borrowing more. People just do not seem to get into their heads that any business or individual should have at least three months money in hand and, again and again, it has been shown that JIT only works in certain cases.

I'm hoping the whole celebrity culture will be swept under the carpet - as people are now seeing their, and family's health is at risk - and certain priorities need to be made. I'm guessing many PR agents are pacing the rooms now trying to dream up ways of maintaining their client's relevence.

I expect the floodgates to soon open with many of them announcing how they have tested positive- and then engage in an ongoing commentary of their plight, and motivational plattitudes.

"Francesca....get me on the front pages...anything...I'll say I've been raped by a giraffe!"
"How about I get Corona and fear for my children?"

"Nah...Kerry Cantona did that last week...won't work"

"Bitch!"

Even during my time in BAOR when I was accompanied by Zero Alpha and the subunits, we had plenty of experience of Townsend Thoresen et al.

Zero Alpha was heavily pregnant with Alien Minor 1 when we returned to BAOR after I'd transferred to RAPC, autumn 82.

The ferry left the shelter of Harwich into a gale and smacked head on into the first big wave. 90% of passengers and crew, their stomachs didn't stop the way the ferry did. I looked after 0A. I left the remaining crew to look after everyone else. The vomit was tidal before we were halfway across.

Or all those times we had a cabin and school children run amok in the corridors, banging on doors. Zero Alpha's instructions to pursers to get teachers out of bats and taking responsibility for their charges were far less brutal than the lorry drivers trying to sleep.

Back in the UK after I'd left the mob, P&O used to advertise Why sail across the channel when you can cruise across the channel? Neither of us could ever get past that night on 1982. She will never cruise. I'd like to see the Aurora Borealis, but it would mean a cruise.

Those schoolchildren are all grown up now. If that's what a cruise is like, you're welcome to it.

I'd like to see the news outlets give actors a stiff ignoring when awards season rolls around, as frankly who cares what someone who gets paid to play make-believe thinks about politics? But as it stood at the beginning of 2020, news organs were covering acceptance speeches and rants by luvvies as though it was something of earth-shattering consequence. Guess what, it isn't, and I hope that the entertainment sections of newspapers are pared back to a half-page, right above the personal ads and escort ads.

Sadly as armoured recce battlegroup headquarters, we never did BATUS. We could exercise anywhere we liked in W Germany. Our close recce troops (A Sqn) attached to the armour and infantry, we never saw, being away either at home or in BATUS.

50 years ago he would have been a Medical Assistant (MA). These newfangled CMTs did not come in until the mid 80's

I have been wondering how history will look back on this crisis. The food/bog roll hoarders make the` 80s I want it for me and I want it now selish attitude` look positively neighbourly.

During WW2 we are often told of the `chin up and carry on` attitude of the populous.

WW1 was an era of duty and helping the weak who were being bullied by the strong, one pace orward Belguim.

In this age of social media and the users recording every single minute of their lives, I think people in thirty or forty years time will have plenty to amuse them.

I have an aurora watch webpage just in case it ever heads this way.

Head up to Shetland or even Wick - get away from streetlit areas and you can get a good aurora at the right time of year. If you can get a clear night...

Post-corona I suspect that we are in for austerity and a lot of it. I don't mean the get-the-economy-back-from-the-last-Labour-brink pseudo-austerity we were enjoying these last ten years but actual, ball-grinding, full-on austerity worthy of the name; austerity of the sort that HM Disloyal Opposition can really complain about, despite having no clue and no plan on how to rescue the economy themselves, the hateful, self-loathing, pointless, grandstanding, oxygen-thieving, waste-of-skin little fuckweasels.

Anglesey seems to get it sometimes too, on the more remote coastal bits anyway

im not convinced. theeconomy will need a major kick start and cutting government expenditure isnt necessarily a good thing. I’m not entirely sure what they are going to do but I suspect it will be major fiscal stimulus

There was a borrowing projection on the news the other night for how Rishy is going to pay everyone's wages and keep their businesses going. It was soaring up waaaaay over what the last five years have been, year on year.

But who's going to lend us the money? Every other country with a couple of brass farthings to rub together will all be spending their cash the same way we are, mostly, and looking to borrow themselves.
