Leo, your post are becoming increasingly esoteric, at least to me,and I find some difficult to understand. This is one in question.

De Gaulle may have thought he had equivalence to the USA, I'm damned sure the US did not feel the same way.
I seem to recall something about De Gaulle demanding that all US Service Members should leave France...

Aye but I thought that take had done the rounds sufficiently already.

Because this was real Politik AY. France never liked Nato, cos America Led it and, more to the point it was in Europe's back yard ( That's French territory in French eyes). Of the occupying powers only Russia and France were continental, So any flinging of the verdammte verbotene Waffen would impact France directly. US and UK were occupational Powers only and then only until 1955. Since Adenauer was in effect in French Pockets. No the simple answer was that France should have been told to pack their bags an foxtrot Oscar in 1945 but they couldn't because of De Gualle's committment to the Free French and that came home to roost in '.48 with the requirement for a west Germany. See IMHO the fact that we had nuclear weapons made not One jot of difference and MAD assured it, no one dared use them. France is why.

There's a little fact that people forget in the very early days when America got nukes, they were right next door to France and France said "if your going to play with nukes-we want a say."
France wanted to borrow a couple for that Indo-china bash, allegedly.

I think you might have understood my post.

As posted by @sniper_bob. The 100 jobs here and there, the £30 million investment here and there was small in the grand scheme of things.

The Unilever decision was absolutely massive

Indeed and it's across a variety of sectors where the EU have always determined they have a might-is-right advantage - food, automobiles, technology etc.

Another blow today for the European Space Agency as Lithuanian-based NanoAvionics (they make nanosatellite platforms) is to create 400 new jobs at a new assembly plant in Basingstoke. Their CE Vytenis Buzas says the company is "betting big on the UK market". And why not!

And POTUS Johnston got his SoS to ask about the US soldiers that were buried in France!

Indeed, that's why NATO HQ is in Belgium not France as originally intended and why the recently moved from HQ building (new HQ is over the road) has a warren of what are basically tarted up portacabins as a lot of the office accommodation.
Apparently a rather senior American politician Lyndon B Johnson (POTUS) insisted that his Secretary of State ask DeGaulle if that also included the over 60,000 US servicemen who died for French freedom and are buried in France. DeGaulle left the room in embarrassed silence.

ETA. @Murphy_Slaw got there first. In my time at NATO it's still a bit of a sore point when the US and French are in meetings together, the US really wasn't happy and still don't trust the French an inch.

No rational person would claim that the EU wanted brexit... The referendum was an election promise. Farage style claims of arrogance are unfounded....no more than applying regulations unanimously agreed. Propaganda and hatred did the rest.

Accusing me of constant name calling is to totally ignore the silly and pointless ad hominem attacks on valid points, you should be a moderator.

Your point about facts, reason, socialists, federalists and failure shows lack of research. The only failure is in your understanding. The EU are doing their absolute best to avoid a no deal because the consequences can be clearly seen as harmful to everyone. Those wanting to inflict maximum damage for some erroneous reasons are simply vandals...cutting off noses to spite their face. Although the EU will fair better than Britain perhaps "it will be worth it" as a means of realisation.

And on you go onto ignore. I get back 10 valuable minutes of my day by not having to wade through your increasingly tedious posts.

I am happy to engage with any sensible EU supporter who posts well reasoned replies, even though I may not agree with them.

Rants end up in the 'ignore bin' - which currently contains most of the SPOTY 2020 contenders.

Bye...

You're having a bad October. Do take care.

On the other hand, LBJ also did say "“When a man asks you to leave his house, you don't argue; you get your hat and go."

I always thought that the biggest issue was C2 arrangements for the release of nuclear weapons and De Gaulle being especially unhappy about the US being able to launch nuclear strikes from France without him having an effective veto?

Absolutely, but you’re entitled to feel a little miffed if you sacrificed a lot of blood and treasure to give him the house and he hasn’t even bothered to say thank you.

Oh yes, the US military can move bloody fast when they need to and they did in this case, the evacuation of France didn't take long.

Fortunately the Belgian MOD had a large site not far from Zevantem that they offered to NATO and the HQ was moved there and to Mons for the mil HQ, they didn't have time to build anything fancy to meet the immediate requirement hence the tarted up portacabin accommodation that's only just been mostly vacated.
