Their version of the song is my all time favourite.
I love it how the two story lines are intertwined in the song.

Known as canticle. :-*
I thought that "canticle" simply meant a "ballad" :)
They are telling two distinct stories of love and war, which wasn't in original song.

That's how I've always known it. The canticle is the previous line overwritten with the current one. Dunno. I'm no expert. :boogie:

I obviously know less than you :). Yes, that's more likely.
 
I thought it was an oldie, but it's just been released. Funkin fabulous as Craig Charles would say

Ah yes, that was Martin Carthy's version of a traditional English song. When Simon was visiting Britain in the 60's he asked Martin to teach him this song. Martin, being the kindly person that he was/is, taught him and Simon, the thieving cnut, promptly went out and copyrighted it!
