What is the L prefix on Small Arms?

Discussion in 'The Training Wing' started by Iolis, Jun 30, 2008.

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Something I have been curious about for years but have never found an answer to beyond mere unsupported deduction.

It concerns the prefix 'L' on Small Arms and other weapon and ammunition natures.

    'L1A1', 'L2A1', 'L2A2' etc.

I can only deduce that these are measurements of lethality accorded to the varying weapon/ammunition natures but I have never been able to obtain a table or any explanation as to their meaning.

Any experts out there that could enlighten me?
  2. Land.
  3. msr

    msr LE

I thought L was the designation for British. M for septics etc

  4. But would you trust anything that ARRSEpedia tells you, considering the untrustworthy nature of the people that post there, not to mention the shameless unabridged sh1te that is regularly posted by users??

PS L for Land Service will probably be re designated as Labia or Labrador or lady-Boy in about 30 seconds.
  5. Many thanks. Much obliged.
  6. As with N for Naval and K for Krab.
