What if the moon landings went wrong? Deep fake videos and misinformation capabilities

This is an interesting piece (well I think so) and raises the subject of what could be done with deep fake video capabilities to ‘enhance’ the credibility of misinformation:

What if the moon landing went wrong ? :

Everyone knows the moon landings were faked in a Hollywood studio by Orson Welles with the help of The Clangers

Apollo 13 gives a good idea for what happens when it goes wrong, albeit it was the in-transit part rather than the landing on the moon part.

They’d be proper fücked.

Not your average locked the keys in the car fücked, but proper ‘oh shit’ fücked.
Apparently, Nixon had an 'Oh Bollix' speech ready as well. It would have been a long trip back for Mike Collins on his own.

yep.
Text of William Safire’s speech for President Richard Nixon, in the event of a disaster besetting Apollo 11.

Fate has ordained that the men who went to the moon to explore in peace will stay on the moon to rest in peace.

These brave men, Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin, know that there is no hope for their recovery. But they also know that there is hope for mankind in their sacrifice.

These two men are laying down their lives in mankind’s most noble goal: the search for truth and understanding.

They will be mourned by their families and friends; they will be mourned by their nation; they will be mourned by the people of the world; they will be mourned by a Mother Earth that dared send two of her sons into the unknown.

In their exploration, they stirred the people of the world to feel as one; in their sacrifice, they bind more tightly the brotherhood of man.

In ancient days, men looked at stars and saw their heroes in the constellations. In modern times, we do much the same, but our heroes are epic men of flesh and blood.

Others will follow, and surely find their way home. Man’s search will not be denied. But these men were the first, and they will remain the foremost in our hearts.

For every human being who looks up at the moon in the nights to come will know that there is some corner of another world that is forever mankind.

Mankind! Thats Sexist! What an outrage what about the other 57 Genders!

Might have slightly more credibility of the conspiracy theories were not invariably peddled by wild eyed characters attempting to sell books.

Mankind! Thats Sexist! What an outrage what about the other 57 Genders!
12 catagories defined by experts
112 (no really) according to people who fall into one of the above - but invent a reason why they are a bit differrent to be more special. Most of us would consider 90% of them to be made up bollox eg a Gender like smoke* or a hollow Gender * Or a Gender with another gender on top - which is somehow differrent to having a dominant gender.

*I have no feckin idea how that works either

The film 'Capricorn One' is based on the premise that a planned moon-landing went wrong. It's on YouTube if anyone wants to see it.
As well as the points made above, any conspiracy to fake moon landings would involve so many people that it would be highly unlikely to remain secret.

and why would they have to fake it six times?

They (R4?) had a Nixon impersonator read it on one of the anniversaries. It's probably floating around the internet somewhere

utter rubbish.

everyone knows Nasa got Stanley Kubrick in to do it.

being the perfectionist that he was, he insisted on location filming.

One conspiraloon theory is that the fake moon landings were filmed and produced by Stanley Kubrick.

Duh.

Compare the moon sequences in 2001 A Space Odyssey, released a year IIRC a year before which showed the moon in all its glorious now not very believable studio shots, with what was transmitted from the moon. Completely different, especially the walking in low gravity mode.

E2A: Beaten to the mention of Kubrick.
