What goes on during drill nights?

This thread's gone to the dogs

Sometimes the truth hurts petal. What do you think happens?

A few half arsed lessons, admin, smoking, lots of walking about skiving and a bit of prep for the next weekend.

It's not rocket science. Unless you are in the anti-tank platoon, in which case it might be.

if you cant take a joke you shouldnt have joined! (you will hear this phrase most drill nights)
It was more about the fact that the thread had turned into people obviously having a laugh at the lack of interesting things going on but yet no objectivity in any of the responses... as in, no actual straight answers.. bar 1 at the beginning.

everything in the responses, bar the soggy biscuit and sodomy, will go on on a drill night.

It was nothing to do with a lack of interesting stuff. All these things go on because it's not school, it's exactly the same as any other workplace with the same skives, cliques and routines.

Only difference is there are likely to be a few twats about (thankfully a minority) that think a couple of stripes or a crown entitles them to forget common courtesy and speak to you like you are a retarded sub-species.

Most of the work in the TA will be done in your own time i.e reitterating what you'll need to know in prepation for phase 1 like SAA and first aid or some serious training to get that fitness up for phase 2, those drill nights are basically just so the platoon commanders can give you the basics of whats going on, whats coming up and anything interesting like tours or cross training with other NATO forces, and after that a good p**s up :)

show and tell on the latest bits of gucci kit you bought of a special forces website followed by a game of soggy biscuit
Sounds like a fun drill night to me! Can I transfer?

Drill night..hmmm..such fond memories!

Normally split into two session, one practical such as first aid, map reading, weapon handling, soggy biscuit followed by something impractical such as drill in the snow, convoy protection without vehicles (thats when we thought we were off to Bosnia), recce patroling using an LDV mini bus because our Series 3 was knackered or a BFT along the beach that involved a mile and a half run to the start line!

Being the North of Scotland, most of this took place in the dark!
