What film have you just watched?

The DVD extras have an interview conducted by the teams actual embed journo' (I think - ages since I watched it) with Reyes, Person and Colbert and as I recall they were saying that things on the ground were very close to how they were shown in the series, including the stick-to-the-code self-obsessed SM and idiot/child leading one of the other platoons.

Two of the other sergeants were played by veterans, too - an airman and an Army PFC, I think it was.
Eric Kocher also a member of the unit played Gunnery Sergeant Rich Barrett rather than playing himself as Rudy did.

Tomb Raider (the new one). I might develop a thing for Swedish birds.

Before that, Pacific Rim Uprising. Bit "meh" but quite good for a bit of suspension of disbelief an switching off. I might develop a thing for Oriental birds...

It was Tom Courtenay (the troubled young man) night on TCM, and I'm currently watching Private Potter (1962). It's about a soldier in Cyprus who foils his comrades raid to capture a high-ranking EOKA member, by screaming out loud just before the raid starts. One soldier is killed, and the EOKA member escapes. Potter claims that he saw God, which made him yell. The film is about the debate among the officers on what to do with him. Is he a coward, a visionary or mad? Not too bad of a film, so far.

By the way, Potter's regiment is the 1st Rutland Yeomanry.

It got me recalling that Courtenay, as a soldier named Private Hamp, also saw God (or maybe it was Christ) in King and Country (1964) which featured Dirk Bogarde. I don't yet know how Private Potter ends, but in King and Country, Private Hamp is shot for desertion.

Oh, wait, Private Potter has just escaped custody and taken off for the mountains. Gotta go.

Cheers,
Dan.
Seen it a few times. An unusual and forgotten (except by the BFI) Brit-MGM film out of Denham/Borehamwood. Also a TV Play the year before. Most of the cast went on to good things and Brit-MGM made some cracking films. 'Potter' is slated by some but it's alright; it was originally on ITV Playhouse almost with the same cast, apart from 'Rumpole' as the Doctor and Rodney Bewes as the Signaller.

For the old baldies, the Adj Capt. Knowles character is played by Eric Thompson (Time for Bed said Zebedee) in the film. Jeremy Geidt was the Major and Fulton Mackay was uncredited.

Escape Plan 2: Hades. Opens well in the runny-jumpy-punchy-kicky stakes but then Stallone appears. Formulaic actioner after that. More '80s action flick cliches than you can shake a stick at.

I'm not the zookeeper, by the way.

"When the Wind Blows", based on the graphic novel by Raymond Briggs. With Sir John Mills and Dame Peggy Ashcroft starring as Jim and Hilda Bloggs, characters based on Briggs' own parents, which makes it a bit more poignant to see what happens to the poor naive bastards.

Still horrifying all these years after the first time I saw it.

Asking for a friend, is that a mainstream film containing oriental ladies - or a more specialist sort of passtime?

As for Tomb Raider, Alicia Vicklander rolling around doing some MMA stuff.

:)

Pacific Rim: Uprising is a largely pointless sequel to a much better mainstream film, and does contain several Asian ladies.

7 Days At Entebbe. Raid on Entebbe was much more exciting. And WTF was all that flippin' dance stuff interspersed with very little of the actual raid...? Meh...

One for the WAG

"Finding your feet". Set and filmed in and around Southwark, Islington and Camden.
Starring
Timothy Spall
Celia Imrie
Imelda Staunton
Joanna Lumley

Funny and a little sad but all round a good watch

It's a Hollywood pastiche of traditional Japanese monster movie, there are adult films with soundalike titles to Pacific Rim as the name rather invites it...
