Thanks for that ... just downloaded a copy to watch laterWestfront 1918 - Made in Germany in 1930 by Ufa Film. Kind of along the same lines as "All Quiet on the Western Front" Not a Tommy or Yank to be seen, but there are plenty of French peegs and Renault tanks to make life difficult for our German infantry company.
A group of German infantrymen of the First World War live out their lives in the trenches of France. They find brief entertainment and relief in a village behind the lines, but primarily terror fills their lives as the attacks on and from the French army ebb and flow. One of the men, Karl, goes home on leave only to discover the degradation forced on his family by wartime poverty. He returns to the lines in time to face an enormous attack by French tanks.

I followed it up by reading two of the history books on the real battle. More interesting, and shameful the way the senior ranked officers who weren't actually involved in the fighting put themselves up for bravery awards (and got them!)...Picked up 'Danger Close' in Asda this morning. Not bad, I thought. Some of it seemed to be influenced by 'We Were Soldiers', but overall not a bad film.
I think it is an everything parody, porn, daleks, films in general. The DVD includes 'The Other Version' which is slightly shorter but entirely comprised of out-takes and bloopers. It really is quite silly. Apart from the rude bits, obviously.
No violence and wall-to-wall fit women - most of whom were very, er, friendly - when I was doing 8wks on/4wks off out there in 2007. Did not see one ugly/old woman - until we got to Papua. Ugh!!!I watched that Indonesian cop film "the Raid 2" the violence and action was relentless .
I must remember to give that place a miss.
