Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Just got my civvie boots p*ss wet through with seawater, is there anything I need to do to make sure they're not ruined?

  2. dry them
  3. Assuming leather boots:
    Soak them in fresh water with the insoles etc removed (An hour minimum or longer if you were standing in the sea for a length of time). Tip water out and allow to drain. Leave them to air dry.

    With a damp cloth, wipe away any salt deposits.
    Apply neatsfoot oil to rejuvenate the leather. Leave for 24 hrs and finish off with Nikwax or Kiwi as desired.

    Goretex/fabric boots: Just wash them out and dry them I suppose.
  4. Thanks for the advice, am off to soak them now.

    A tip my brother gave me;
    Always apply the polish the night before & leave overnight so the oils from the polish soak into the leather,Dunno if that's gospel but it's worked so far.
