Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Watching a programme on tv the other night, it was about Tectonics and Volcanoes. All really good info, except where it came to descibing the power of such cataclysmic events.
For instance, the 2004 earthquake in Indonesia, which generated the Tsunami, that was the equivalent of a 5 gigaton nuke, now this is where the weights and measures comes into it, they then pointed out this was the same as 5000 Nagasaki bombs.
Another, was the dust cloud created by an eruption, covered an area of 50,000 square miles, or the equivalent of Spain.
a 30metre high Tsunami, eqivalent to a 9 storey building.
I've heard other as well, like the Olympic size swimming pools, and 15 New York yelow cabs laid end to end.
Any other mind boggling measures out there? why do they do it? Does it make it any easier to comprehend?
  2. Step away from the keyboard slowly.........Nerd Police you're f*ckin' nicked matey!

Quite often commentators describe a site of devastation as being 'the size of Wales'. But it never is bloody Wales, is it?
  4. Was it Jonathon Edwards who "jumped" 17 or so london busses, side to side? No he fcukin never, he hopped and skipped about 16 of them into a bloody sandpit.

Also being told you have shrunk 2" & put on 2 stone overnight.
  5. Dumbing down for thick chavs
  6. What else would they do?? it gives a job to someone!! suppose it makes it easier for the average F**ckwit to understand!!

by the OFAH - you need to pm me the linky to where you get your avatar pics from!!! - crackin!
  7. If all the girls from St Jude's School for girls were laid end to end,no one would be at all surprised.
That the sort of thing you mean?
  8. CLICKY gives you all of the weights and measures that you might possibly need.
