Weighted vest for running?

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. I am hoping to join the Infantry, I was considering buying a 20 kg weighted vest ive seen for a 6 mile and 3 mile run i do each week.

I want to build stamina and get my body used to carrying extra weight for training.

I s this something anyone has any experience at and would you recomend it, or is it inviting injury?
  2. Don't bother. Just work on your running and general cardio and ensure you can do at least 75 press ups and sit ups with two minutes for each exercise and you'll comfortably enjoy PT.
  3. Waste of money. If you really insist on running with weight, use a daysack full of useful stuff, like food and water. I'd drop the idea altogether, frankly. Work on your speed and stamina, the Army will give you plenty of experience in carrying useless, heavy shit around.

I agree. Do your running training without weight. If you want to prepare for tabbing with weight carry something useful and go walking in boots. Why buy a useless bit of heavy kit?
  5. Agreed, every piece of advice I have ever been given is let the Army teach you to walk with weight ect., just stick to general cardio work and press-ups, as already mentioned.
  6. Agree with all the replies above otherwise you'll get injured or shot by armed rozzers as a suicide nutter.
    Bergan + 28kgs + 6 miles = job done.

  7. Thanks for the quick advice guys.

The main reason I was thinking of it is my cousin is an army lad and is also a keen boxer, he does all his runs with a 30 kg one and has massive tree trunk legs and is superfit, I was hoping it could help me in the same way.
  8. I should go and chill outside finsbury mosque and see how long it takes for me to get slotted :D

Good for him, but he's a boxer. What are you? Maybe you're a potential Army 1500m or cross country runner or skier, where tree trunk legs will not be a good idea. Do general fitness training, specialisation can come later when a good PTI might spot your potential.
  10. Just wait 25 years and you will naturally have an additional 20 kgs to lump around! ;,-)

  11. The 140 pounds I would of spent on the vest is now going to be spent on a night at a hotel on saturday where a rather fat slut is going to let me rag her ass around for the night, but hey, fucks a **** right?

  12. 140 quid for a ******* vest!? What's it weighted with, rhodium? Good to see you've come to your senses, anyway. Use condoms, in case she comes out with some 'I'm pregnant' bullshit. Make sure you smash her back doors in, and take some pics.
  13. I used to run around Barker barracks wearing 68 pattern webbing filled with sand! It went very well with No2 dress, cromed tin hat and WOMBAT drill round held above the head, in fact very natty indeed.

Ex RSM 3RHA please note, no amount of me sweating could ever unshag your wife and daughter....
  14. Lol
  15. If she pulls that i will just kill her and make it look like suicide, CSI complete series, you have served me well :D
