Hi, I have recently joined the reserves and training as a tank Crewman, I want to get my own webbing because the issued one is rubbish, I want decent kit as I want to go regular in the future so don’t mind paying for quality, the problem is i don’t have a clue on what to look for?
Any advice and links would be greatly appreciated

Just a thought, but what are your chances of being issued Virtus kit? It would be a bit of a pain to have bought Gucci new webbing, then get issued new kit that you have to wear (speaking as someone who recently bought new webbing and was told a month later that we'd all be getting issued the new helmet, vest and belt).

Hi, our QM struggled to get us MTP webbing yet alone virtus so I’d be surprised if it’s anytime soon, although we got 20 virtus daysacks that we have to share between the squadron

Buy 1937 pattern webbing as issued in 1972.

It was a kind of khaki colour that then had to be polished with black boot polish and the brass bits shined with brasso.

It was very fetching with compulsory matching cross-straps over the shoulders.

The cross-straps were there to be used to drag you out of the tank when you were dead.

I'm not sure if you will be issued with a tank these days.

We had a mad CO who insisted on the cross straps.

There was a story that a driver miss-judged the depth when wading and he and his open hatch dissapeared under the muddy water. The Chieftain was swamped.

When he failed to appear the commander leapt into the water and managed to get hold of the drivers head but could not pull him out until he realised he was standing on the drivers shoulders.

I was looking at dragon supplies webbing because they have lifetime warranty so if it does break then I won’t have to pay, also Xmas is coming up so hopefully family with put something towards it so it won’t cost as much

If it breaks while on operations, you may find that the delivery time for the replacement is unacceptably long.

It will be the same price whether you pay for it or your family does.

I was thinking along similar lines, but I suspect that this question demonstrates that times have changed and modern AR tank crew don't actually see their tanks on a regular basis.

Do some more training and make sure this post is never traced back to you.

Alternatively, video yourself climbing into a C2 in CEFO, post it on You Tube and make sure you capture the look on your crew commander's face.

...... I find the belt constantly coming loose and it just feels heavy and uncomfortable to use compared to a few mates ones I’ve tried that just feel weightless and they have no issues with.....

Hint: Ask them where they got their kit from !
