RIP Seaweed

Wrap me up in me oilskin and jumper
No more on the docks I'll be seen
Just tell me old shipmates
I'm taking a trip, mates
And I'll see you one day in Fiddler's Green

RIP Seaweed - another good ARRSEr gone. Condolences to wife and family.

I first saw Seaweeds posts on Rum Ration about 10 years ago ish, he struck me then as a knowledgable bloke and ever ready to pass on information and answer questions.
Sad to lose another capable and experienced Arrser. RIP.

I have just watched "We Joined the Navy" which is set in Seaweed's time. I would like to think of him as the Bodger as he had the same down to earth sensibility.

I have not seen that. When is it set?

There is something quite poignant about Seaweed as he was only a couple of years older than my Dad and from time to time I wondered if their paths crossed.

It is a comedy adapted from the book by John Winton and is set in the early 60s.

And as my previous - and fiercely Scottish MIL would say:

"Here's to us and those like us. There's not many left, the rest are all dead".

Mind you, she was married to an Englishman.

And RIP to you too, Major Geoff C. MC.

RIP, Seaweed. I enjoyed reading your posts. Stand Easy.
