Water Wars

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. YarS

It's not take too much time - some English forums, some French. Something like session of simultanouse chess play on the ten boards. Piece a cake when your partners are children or Unrusses.
That would be delightful, I look forward to it... As one pretending to be hystorian you can start with quoting most typical scriptures from the times of global warming (hint: they preffer to write about local and international politic, great buildings, glory of rulers, et cetera...) and from the times of global or local cooling (hint: they preffer to write about crop failure, starvation, civil wars, anarchy, banditism, cannibalism and, sometimes, on the peak of cooling - silent period of the lack of writing).

My pleasure. Is unorganised and chaotic crimes (West politic) your thing?

"Global warming" they say, "No more harsh winters" they say.
    New York now -11.
  4. Cape Town probably going to run dry at Easter.
Cape Town, home to Table Mountain, African penguins, sunshine and sea, is a world-renowned tourist destination. But it could also become famous for being the first major city in the world to run out of water.

Most recent projections suggest that its water could run out as early as March. The crisis has been caused by three years of very low rainfall, coupled with increasing consumption by a growing population.

Our Russian correspondent has proposed that global warming is a hoax, because volcanoes put out more CO2 than humans do.
Naturally, as this is an assertion by a Russian it should be taken at face value...Nah...

Firstly, what is the BASELINE CO2 of global volcanism?. That is, the thousands of volcanoes, large and small, that cook off all the time.
Using NOAA data, we find this interesting little graph which compares the background CO2 of global volcanic and geologic CO2 versus human

Which emits more carbon dioxide: volcanoes or human activities? | NOAA Climate.gov

So, just how could @YarS get this so badly wrong, considering that the CO2 chart will cover the major eruptions of Krakatoa, Pinatubo, Mt St Helens, etc, without troubling the chart?
Is it idiocy, being unable to tell the difference between Megatons and gigatons? Surely not, for our scientific genius.
So lets try and trace the origin of this assertion. I finally found it, referenced on the SNOPES fact checking site.
Does a Single Volcanic Eruption Release as Much CO2 As All of Humanity Has to Date?
The myth that a single volcanic eruption puts more CO2 into the atmosphere than all of mankind to date, let alone 10,000 times more, is one of the most pervasive as well as one of the most demonstrably false climatological claims out there. It stems, ultimately, from a geologist named Ian Plimer, infamous for writing a widely discredited book titled Heaven and Earth, which attempted to argue that humans have had an insignificant effect on global climate.

So, who is the author? Prof Plimer's wiki page is here
Heaven and Earth (book) - Wikipedia

You can make up your own minds about this, but the fact is that it is a single point source by a climate change denier.

Now, as I have pointed out to @YarS on several occasions, the CO2 emissions from volcanoes are rarely significant except for some truly epic events in geological history, but the global COOLING effects of volcanic activity is well known. This seems to have escaped him, because it is not what he wants to hear.

As I have noted above there have been historical impacts from volcanic activity, and some cyclical climate activities. These are well recorded. However, the CO2 emissions were largely CONSTANT until the human era, when land use and industrial activity began altering the balance. It was Russian research on the Vostock ice cores in Antarctica that helped proved this.

Now, this is very much a part of @YarS other opinion, that 'environmentalism is a religion.'
This is also an entirely credible assertion.... NAH.

The difference between science and religion is that good science trusts nothing and tests everything on the evidence.
Religion trusts everything to God, and dismisses evidence it doesn't like.

Since @YarS is clearly (Amongst his other obvious deep psychological problems) a religious devotee of the cult of Mother Russia, the Orthodox Church and the Little Father Putin, we can clearly see that evidence of things he doesn't like will be dismissed, because he cannot accept that he is wrong. It would shake his entire world view.

By now, he has probably sprayed vodka over his screen, and will start ranting on about the House of Windsor. Strange, because that seems to be a nod to the theories of the mighty David Icke.

David Icke explains his infamous theory why 'Queen IS a shape-shifting reptile'

Now, as alien shape shifting lizards go, I have to say she generally seems more honest and competent than your average Russian chekist, oligarchic war criminal tyrant, so if @YarS prefers his Mafiosi to Her Maj, I can only see that as his usual lack of judgement/sanity.

By now, he will probably be calling me 'UnRus' which is also strange, because he seems to think it is an insult, instead of a compliment.
To most people, being compared to a citizen of a country with fewer friends than the bloke who cleans out the cess pit at a leper colony, and whose main exports are laundered money and prostitutes would be unkind.
    Sadly, @YarS is 'Rus'.

  8. New limit. 50 litres per person per day.
  9. And of course the increase in population has nothing to do with the ruling regime trying to flood the area with their votahs in order to unseat the DA, along with those moving there because it more or less works, might offer employment and is preferable to their own ANC run shitholes.

The influx of holidaymakers over December didn't help things and you can rest assured that water wastage from taps left running in the squatter camps is ongoing. After all, water is free isn't it?

Add to that govt and local administration fuckwittery in addressing a problem that has been fairly obvious for a long time and you can see how it all went tits up.
  10. Absolutely spot-on.
Everyone in denial... It is going to rain soon, isn't it?
Those of us who actually read the papers and listen to the news have been aware of it for over a year.
But the vast majority of the populace are quite shocked... IF they have heard the news yet.
Yesterday's forecast was for overnight rain. How much did we get? Fokol.
  11. You need rain in the catchment area, not on CT itself. A good downpour in CT wouldn't hurt though. I'm sure the usual collection of trendy crusties are even crustier than normal if they've been adhering to the restrictions, the dirty hipster crunts.
  12. Lentalist *******.
BUT bizarrely, because a lot of them don't use deodorant, they shower twice a day...
Then slap on the patchouli oil with a paintbrush, by the stink of 'em...
