    As we know them:

Monday - Our Ships at sea
    Tuesday - Our Men
Wednesday - Ourselves (as no one is likely to concern themselves with our welfare)
Thursday - A bloody war or a sickly season
Friday - A willing foe and sea room
Saturday - Sweethearts and wives (may they never meet)
    Sunday - Absent friends

As the Second Sea Lord would like us to know them

Monday - Our Ships at sea
    Tuesday - Our Sailors
Wednesday - Ourselves (as no one is likely to concern themselves with our welfare)
Thursday - A bloody war or a sickly season
Friday - A willing foe and sea room
    Saturday - Our families
    Sunday - Absent friends

Now before the old farts have a siezure the thinking is sound. Our Sailors as we now have men, women and even Welshmen serving. Wives and Sweethearts, well in this case it removes the obvious gender issue and more importantly I feel means the families as a whole get a mention. After all we do bugger them around a lot.

Me? I think it is fine and can't see an issue.

    What about others?

  2. I thought Thursday was " A bloody whore with sickly seasoning", but I was taught that on a submariners' run ashore (which is not the same thing as a submarine's grounding ashore).

This will have a massive effect on morale for the lads down the messdecks.

Not exactly a big staffing effort is it?

Sooooo about those toasts. Our Sailors and Our Families. Looks OK to me. Right knock up a letter, post it. Job done.

  7. ...and sit back satisfied, with a G&T, reflecting on how very well it's all going...

...as HMS Personnel Management heads ever closer to the rocks.

  8. No...I've checked my pulse.....blood pressure normal.......pupils....normal......respiration......normal....no........I just can't seem to get excited about this at all.

Why don't you have a toast for the Queen's dogs, the corgies?

  9. Change them all he wants, I doubt the change would really be noticed, even if an RNTM came out. People will 'know the toast' and probably just carry on with the current one. At risk of sounding like I'm jumping on a certain bus, though I am not (as a junior not qualified to be a senior, I have never had to and I vision, never will have to toast), will it not fly in the face of 'tradition' which is what our service is all about?

Why its not like down in 3PP on the old 22's we were rattling them out each night?

When do the Juniors and Seniors ever use them bar Pickle night?

  14. What's wrong with just applying non-gender-specific alternatives.
Partners and pashes - may they never meet (lest they run off with each other)

    or how about
    Proposer - "Next of Kin"
    Response - "Next"

    Or straight from JSP 770
"Those who are or have been intimate partners, or family members, regardless of gender or sexuality."

I'm not sure about "Our families." What about the poor little orphans? They'll be reminded every time and cry
