  1. hi all
    a quick question.
im in receipt of a war pension which is currently £87 a week, is it possible to cash this in for one lump some?
thinking of emmigrating so would be handy ive workrd out if i continue on my war pension till im 60 it should be worth £114000 id sell it for £90000
any one have any idea if this is possible
  2. A very quick answer:

No, unless you can argue, in some cases and I am not aware that the MOD has ever agreed to it, that your life is so impaired that you could croak next week (and telling the MOD that you want to emigrate with your pot of gold militates against that one....). :D

Your calculation is wrong... the value of a pension (aka an annuity) is calculated on how much money one would need to buy a similar index-linked income.

I reckon £75k might be closer to the mark as a value for your pension but no-one would "buy" what you are offering because there is no protection to them if you croak a week next Sunday! I might argue that the theoretical value in today's market would be closer to £50k and probably less.
