WAR MEMORIAL

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. We have many war memorials and that is a good thing in my opinion BUT most depict soldiers of bygone eras. WW1 and WW2.

I would like to ask if we should have a new memorial, one with a modern day soldier, perhaps in deserts or from the 60s era. A memorial to rememember soldiers, sailors and airmen who have paid the ultimate sacrifice since the end of world war 2 and have a wall of honour, similar to the US Vietnam one.

Sureley we must remember the present as much as the past?!

My understanding was that the Cenotaph was used to remember everybody.

  4. And so is the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month

  5. I had no idea about the one at lichfield, and I must say, it looks as though it will be a stunning piece.
Does anybody know if it will be kept up to date though?
As morbid as it sounds, will their be empty panels that can be added to when the time arises?
Either way I think its a very good thing, and about time too.

  7. Use the link I posted above and it gives you details about helping the funding, there will be enough space to add more names. The idea is that the Sun will cast a shadow between a deliberate space through the stones at 11 am on the 11th Nov, but with the British weather I doubt that will happen.
