Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Evening all,

This is my first post on here so i'd like to say hello to everyone. I'm currently in the process of applying to volunteer for operational linguist duties; i'm now just waiting for manning clearance to be confirmed and then I can get my application sent to DOLSU.

I've had a thorough read through the relevant DIN and various articles on the Defence Intranet as well. I've also seen a really good thread on here from last year about linguist training in general.

However, I was wondering if there was anyone on here who has specifically done a volunteer draft and would be willing to share their views and experiences.

Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks

May I suggest you read the Int Corps forum on Arms and Services. It very much depends what language skills you have and what you would like to specialise in. They may be able to give you some direction.

  3. Highlander,

Thanks for the reply mate, i'll be sure to have a look at the Int Corps forum and see if anyone on there can help. I haven't really got any previous language experience to be honest, only my French GCSE which I took years ago. I've recently taken an MLAT though and it went alot better than expected so it's something I want to explore further.

  4. Nice one Charlie, thanks for those. I've already had a look through the linguist training thread but i'll definitely have a good read through the other one.
