Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. For information: Those going on at some stage to Reserve Service (TA, RNVR, RMR or RAFR) any efficient service in an OTC or equivalent counts towards a Volunteer Reserve Service Medal at half rate.

So three years OTC counts as 1.5 years towards the 10 years required for the VRSM. If you leave OTC for the Regs (which also counts half) and do 8 years there you only need 4.5 years TA service for the VRSM. There is a cap on the amount of Regular Service that counts towards the VRSM.
