Zone alarm, Kaspersky, and most Security products don't work either. Not to mention any program that requires access to the vista Kernel.

most computer experts recommend to wait awhile before purchasing vista whilst the many teething problems are sorted out i think i,ll wait a year or two

There is so many that don't... Nero pre 7.5.1, Nortons, System Mechanic Etc

The new version of Kapersky works fine and the new nero does, just have to update to the new versions

There might be some light at the end of the tunnel,

We all need to download direct x 9, then version supplied with vista, isn't a "real" version.....

This is ment to help some of the older games, but im not sure yet, will post more as and when i work it out!

It's DirectX 10 with Vista. You should be able to get Vista drivers for your card/chip which will address most issues though.

The comaptibility mode can also be useful:Need for Speed Carbon only runs with Windows 98 compat mode. Try all the emulations for your game or app before declaring it N/S.

A word of warning too - make a backup of critical stuff before any fiddling. One of my PCs totally shat itself when I tried to install Nero 7.

What im going to be doing is waiting until its at least had its first service pack which should fix quite a lot of the bugs, just as with Windows XP when it was released.

At least this way you dont have to be one of microsofts guinea pigs in finding out their bugs for them through the error reporting crap, and save yourself from the boredom of not being able to play your favorite games at the same time.

Been running it on my lappy for a few months and its sh1te. Far to much is wrong at the moment - only reason I haven't rolled back to XP is that I'm too lazy to do it. Still have XP on my desktop and will have until SP1 is released.

You've answered a burning question, With the advent of this VISTA Program, as it is bloody everywhere at the moment.TV, Internet, Billboards, shops Etc.
I will wait until all the glitches are ironed out, before the switch..Maybe.

i've been running vista ultimate on my rig since thursday and program incompatibility isn't that much of an issue (IMHO)
i've installed (and are working)

firefox 2 (with an addon to disable active scripts unless allowed)
firetune for firefox
thunderbird 1.5
mozilla backup
speedfan
winamp 5.03
netmeter
startup manager
powerdesk
avg antivirus
pctools firewall
usb trace
registry mechanic
reg vac
adobe acrobat 6 (brings up an incompatible program warning, but ignore it)
CFI shelltoys xp
soundforge 7.0
limewire pro
memory zipper
perfect disk
paragon HD manager 8.5 (a new one so it should work anyway)
poster printery
dbPoweramp
winace
Everest ultimate edition
acdSee 9 works, but hangs occasionally
sisoft SANDRA 7 pro
NERO 7.5 is vista compatible

the next thing on my agenda is to modify the group policy settings to a more suitable environment. there are shedloads of additional services which run by default that are totally unnecessary. after that i might try and find a sil image raid river that will install. ATM in device manager all it sees is raid controller, no manufacturer, nilch. never mind, instead of doing that i suppose i could try and get a life :yawnstretch: ;)

like a spas i put this elsewhere.... this is where it belongs.

iv had vista for about a month now and im not totally happy with it...

some programs that i used quite often on xp dont work on vista.

canon photorecord. - for digi camera
sony media manager for psp
sony phone suite.. for sony mobile phone.
some of my dvd ripped porn

it seems the only thing that really works that i relied on was itunes.
