Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Hi all, first time posting on here and would just like to inform of a double standard.

All members current/ previous of the ADF (Aussie Armed Forces) after approx 4 years get a medal for service which was a few years ago approved by the Queen.

I am not disappointed by my Veterans Lapel Badge, but I feel the risk to British Armed Forces was far greater even before the gulf/ Bosnia and the war on terror.

So what I dont quite understand is why a medal for the Aussie's and a Lapel badge for us!!!!!!!!!! Considering the risk's we faced

    Anyone any thoughts???

Well obviously Australia is a different country and its up to them how they reward service, is this case with a medal.

We however are ruled, currently, by spineless socialists who regard selfless service as abhorrent. So you should be happy you got a badge at all.

Aussies always tend to do the right thing and sod the whingers, it's why I like it so much there.

Oh and welcome by the way. :D
  3. You get LSGC or VRSM. It just takes slightly more than 4 years service in order to qualify for one. Christ, I can't believe you're moaning about this!! If you want a chestful of tin, why don't you do some back to back tours? You'll hace AcSM in no time. Or try eBay. Either way, it's hardly the most pressing problem facing the Forces at the moment. :?
  4. Done to death countless times already - as a 'search' would yield. To the HOLE!
  5. Aaah, but does said Aussie medal get you 10% of a pint of beer in any UK pub, and a princely 15% off any item of Reggatas outdoor apparel in Millets? I think not!
  6. I only wore my veteran badge on one night out but nobody offerred me 10% off my beer!
  7. As with most things there is a tried and trusted technique to getting your 10% off beer. and other services.

In the pub its easy. When the publican asks for the money you must cough discreetley whilst simultaneously drawing his eye line to your lapel badge.

If at first he does not recognise the significance of your badge you could also try muttering Helmand, Kandahar, Basra, Shaibah Log Base, Catterick of any other hostile environment that best suits your individual circumstance and tour history.

If this fails show him the tattoos on your upper right arm outlining your blood group and regimental number. This usually seasl the deal.

Let me know how you get on.
