Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Britain's last surviving veteran of the First World War trenches has been granted free beer for life.

The vow came as Harry Patch, 109, reopened his local, The Rose and Crown in Limpley Stoke, Somerset, after a £220,000 refit.

Harry, injured at Passchendaele in 1917, said: “I’m the envy of many a younger man.”

Landlord Bill Fawdry, 43, is also offering ten per cent discounts to servicemen returning from operations.

  2. Glad to hear about this. However, they could have given the old boy free beer a bit earlier... Good on 'em though.
