Venezuela about to go down the tubes...a lesson for Corbyn and the Labour Party perhaps?

The Cubans I've met are arent that liberal, if anything they are quite conservative. And yes, that's possible - for example Russians are a conservative people in their outlook. It doesn't make them less socialist/communist. Some expressions of sexuality are simply not welcome and seen as western effeteness.
They have a regulated society with some deeply entrenched views that might not sit well with the left in the UK were our left to live out there.
I’ve found the whole of Latin America to be conservative (catholic?) in opinion and action with regards to sexuality. They really can’t get their collective heads around the idea of same-sex sex. They have no tolerance, but this is changing. They’ve had about 200 years of independence, guided by the Catholic Church, so they are bound to be rather backward in their outlook.

This

Churches of all denominations in many places do this. It doesn't mean that there is anything sinister to it.

I really think that Russians are the last people who should be casting aspersions about Governments meddling in the affairs of others.

Where does the Russian Orthodox Church stand on gay sexuality?
The very name Ortodox contains the answer - it is a sin. Russian Patriarch several years ago was invited to Berlin and in his speech in the Bundestag said - ... as you ask about the rights then we have a right to call a sin as a sin.
The Muslims (there is a lot of them in Russia) have the same point of view. And Jewish religious leaders are on the same position.
Yes, many other Churches have negative views on gay sexuality.
As ever, the devil is in the details. In Cuba according to the Guardian, local protestant Churches not only passively accuse gay sexuality but conduct different actions. Taking into account that Cuban society is mostly conservative then the government have 2 alternatives.
1. To defend rights of sexual minorities including the right for marches that could cause riots.
2. To avoid conflicts on sexual ground, to prevent riots.
The variant #1 is not good. The authorities would look as defenders of 'sinners' and possible riots could be a headache for the Communist regime. Also it could boost popularity of protestant clergimen and likely the anti-communist opposition as well.
So the decision that has been made was not directed against LGBT community but was intended to avoid problems. For the Communist regime LGBT community is not a problem at all. But conflicts that are connected to it could be a big problem.

Okay, I have spent a large amount of time on this thread defending Corbyn. Since that time and due to Corbyns remarks and behavior regarding many issues the latest being the Trump visit, I have come to the conclusion that having Corbyn as the next British pm would be a national disaster which should be avoided at all costs.
And while I do not want a conservative government. I have switched and voted for the Brexit Party.
So to cut this short I was wrong and many of the posters here were correct about Corbyn. That is all.

I agree.
I am a socialist (although I was asked to leave the SWP).
I do not support Corbyn, due to his attitude towards Trident and defence in general.

He also seems even worse than the Tories when it comes to persecuting / prosecuting (same thing really) armed forces veterans.

Well, if it's any consolation, I was labour and the years after Blair and the rise of Corbyn et al did for me.
There's no bugger worthy a t#nkers cuss in any of lib/lab/Con. I have to vote for lesser evils rather than greater goods.

What do want? A round of applause for waking up to the danger that Corbyn and co pose?

Well done MrDave, you're now woke!

Oh I just noticed yet another "they're not proper socialists". So far every socialist system/state/country has failed. Miserably (Well it was certainly miserable for the ordinary folk). I'm still waiting to hear what this amazing socialist nirvana is. The one that defies human nature.

I suspect one that doesn't involve violent revolt might be a good start.
Followed by not having violent restraint of public dissatisfaction when it fails might be good as well.
To be honest one that doesn't murder its own unfortunate subjects in huge numbers would be a major improvement.

I have to offer the heartfelt congratulations to someone that have proven they have the intellectual and emotional intelligence to re-assess matters change your mind and deare it so. Too many people on both sides of the political debate these days are deeply entrenched and unable to change their mind.

When you was trained as anti-electricity hacker, but your Spanish language and geography knowledge is too poor (problem actual both for the UK and the USA):
"According to Argentine newspaper Clarín, the power cut occurred shortly after 07:00 (12:00 GMT), causing massive power outages in Argentina and Uruguay and some regions of Paraguay, Chile, and Brazil. The blackout has abruptly interrupted the railway and the subway services, also creating numerous problems on roads due to a traffic lights shutdown."
