VCs for mine clearance and bomb disposal

I know we have rules about in the face of the enemy etc but I read this on todays post from Mr Free Market:
1941: Second Lieutenant Premindra Singh Bhagat of the Royal Bombay Sappers & Miners began a remarkable four-day mine-clearing effort in Abyssinia as British and Indian troops pursued retreating Italian forces. He and his men cleared mines along some 55 miles of tracks. His Bren Gun carrier was twice knocked out by mines, he was also ambushed, and one of his ear-drums was shattered by an explosion. Nevertheless, he continued to lead tirelessly from the front, and was awarded the Victoria Cross.
Serious stuff no doubt but would he get the award today?

He was ambushed during this extraordinary odyssey of bravery so I would imagine that that was what ticked the 'presence of the enemy' box. Personally I think the distinction for minefield clearance/IEDD is a bit of a nonsense. Still, the GC is an award of equivalent status I think.

I believe that a Sapper BDO and an RLC ATO have received MCs for IEDD in Iraq rather than the more 'usual' QGM or GM.

This may mean a VC is possible in the future rather than a GC (as awarded to Captain Pete Norton recently). The VC and GC are both of equal status anyway.

Nice no doing down of anyone intended just fishing for thoughts/comments as this was done in a war that touched everyone!
