USB 2 upgrade

#1
Hi folks,

After some advice.

My old tower system only has USB1 USB ports, I know you can get USB 2 upgrades that are attached to a PCMCIA card, but I don't have a PCMCIA slot!

Is there anyway I can upgrade my old USB1 slots to USB 2?

I do have slots for SD/SMC/CF and MD type cards if that helps!

Cheers

Assuming you have a spare pci slot in the back, try one of these.

That one has firewire on it as well. There are loads of variations on the theme, do a search for pci and usb2 to find more.

Edited to add: You might be able to use the internal USB on that card to hook up an existing port, depends on the headers on the cables, or whether you trust yourself with a soldering iron

Try AND SEE IF THERE IS A NEW BIOS AND RE-FLASH THE MOTHER BOARD, On older pc's you may find usb's in the rear of the pc are usb2 where usb's on the front of the pc are usb1

No, please don't. USB 1 and USB 2 are different hardware, so a new BIOS can't help you.

If your computer only has USB1, then it may well be due for replacement anyway.
