U.S. nuclear sub collides with cargo ship

MANAMA, Bahrain -- A U.S. nuclear submarine collided with a Turkish cargo ship in the Gulf before dawn Monday, and spokesmen for both vessels said nobody was injured and damage was minor.

The USS Philadelphia was traveling on the surface of the Gulf when it slammed into the Turkish-flagged bulk carrier M/V Yaso Aysen at about 2 a.m. (7 p.m. Sunday), said a statement from the 5th Fleet Headquarters in Bahrain.

Hours later, the vessels docked in Bahrain for a detailed assessment of the damage and repairs.

It was the U.S. Navy's second collision with a civilian vessel in the Gulf in 14 months.

The collision happened about 30 miles northeast of Bahrain, said the spokesman for the U.S. Navy 5th Fleet, Cmdr. Jeffrey Breslau.
Details still emerging , thankfully no one hurt. How does a surface riding Submarine collide with a 52.400 ton bulk carrier? No running lights? Watch change?
nothing to do with the philadelphia experiment then ? ;)

And that is something new in the Naval Sub Services??? Doesn't sound much like punishment but more like a normal daily event.
